In
2002 we began developing a model of Formation for Leadership.
This project came out of our experience of working with leaders
in both business and the church. Its aim was to develop the particular
qualities required of those facing the demands of the leadership
role.
Our
central concept was 'You lead out of who you are'. We
began to appreciate that, whilst all of us shape the social space
around us to some extent, leaders have the mandate and authority
to do so. However, what determines their influence over that space
is their own inner character- their need and use of power, motivation,
integrity, vision, personal morality and vocation etc.
Working
on this premise, we designed a model of Leadership Formation.
The model looks at four dimensions of leadership character

Public
and Private character of leadership

Power,
influence and abuse in leadership

Prophet,
priest, king- the many faces of leadership

Control
and Openness- managing change
In
each dimension the Leadership Formation programme

Identifies
four different 'styles' of leadership

Analyses
the unconscious leadership patterns of each leader in this
area and highlights the issues with each using the Arena
-
Links
Leadership style with Personality analysis (through the PEP)

Uses
Visual Landscaping to develop the leader's ability to foster
new behaviours

Uses
1:1 coaching and peer groups to support change
The
programme uses our proprietary web-based software The Personal
Ecology Profile , Arena and Construct to
support analysis and change.
The
Leadership Formation programme can be used
